Since everyone is constantly communicating with one another, each of us understands the importance of communication in our daily lives. The ultimate goal of this project is to develop an online web dictionary that anyone with Internet access can consult to understand and learn the 3 dialects of the province of Pangasinan, namely, Ilocano , Pangasinan and Bolinao . Since the project also support the English and Filipino languages, any learner who need to be well-versed with the Filipino and English languages can also benefit from the proposed system. Overall, the project will provide a great avenue for language learners who need to be adept in either one or all of the dialects Pangasinan and with the English and Filipino languages be it for formal or informal writing, research, formal oral speech or for simply for communicating with Pangasinan locals.
Aside from the beneficial objectives of developing the system in terms of nurturing the dialects of Pangasinan, the development of the project is rooted also in the fact that, as of this writing, there exists no one online resource for the Ilocano, Pangasinan and Bolinao dialects in-depth word features and digital audio media file for pronunciation. Most current available online resources cater only to one or two of the dialects and usually utilize text-based pronunciation guide. This is the gap that the researchers would want to fill and would make its proposed system to be unique.
In general, the researchers intended to develop an online web dictionary for Ilocano, Pangasinan, Bolinao, Filipino and English words that is word feature-rich. Word features include: identified language or dialectal origin (either English or Filipino language, OR either Ilocano, Pangasinan or Bolinao dialect); suggested International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) pronunciation guide; digital audio pronunciation media file; specific part of speech; definition (based on part of speech) in supported languages and dialects; word translation in supported languages and dialects; available synonyms and antonyms; contextual word usage in sentence form; and language/dialect expert or community user notes, if any.
